Congratulations to Judge Tameeka Williams!

The VWAA congratulates Tameeka Williams, who will begin her first full term as a Judge of the General District Court in Norfolk, Virginia, on April 1, 2021. Ms. Williams has served as a Director on the Board of the VWAA and as a substitute judge for the last several years, and we are excited for the Norfolk community to have her on the bench.


Results of Interviews for Vacancies on Virginia Court of Appeals

On February 2, 4, and 5, 2021, the VWAA's Judicial Screening Committee interviewed sixteen candidates for a vacancy (or potential vacancies) on the Virginia Court of Appeals.  An additional 9 candidates, who participated in the application process in 2020, opted to maintain their VWAA rating. The results of the screening interviews and additional information about each candidate can be found in the letter issued by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association on February 18, 2021.


Interview Results for Vacancy in 20th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, Fauquier County General District Court

The Loudoun Chapter of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association's Judicial Screening Committee conducted interviews of four applicants on December 21-22, 2020 for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Virginia, Fauquier County General District Court as a result of a vacancy.  The results of the screening interviews and additional information about each candidate can be found in the letter issued by the Virginia Women Attorneys Association on January 15, 2021.


Notice of Judicial Screening Interviews For Five Vacancies on The Court of Appeals of Virginia

Pursuant to the By-Laws of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association (“VWAA”), the VWAA will empanel a Judicial Screening Committee (“Committee”) to interview and consider candidates for five vacancies on the Court of Appeals of Virginia.   The Committee will consist of at least five VWAA members.

Interviews of candidates will be conducted virtually via Zoom during the first week of February, 2021.

Candidates interested in applying should submit an application to the VWAA by January 8, 2021 by: 

  1. Downloading the application as a PDF from the VWAA website and emailing the completed application to mparker@decklaw.com and lu@aloupaslaw.com; or
  2. Completing the application electronically through the VWAA website and listing mparker@decklaw.com and lu@aloupaslaw.com in the field for question #4.

Northern Virginia Chapter to Conduct Interviews for United States District Court for the Eastern District of VA

The Honorable Liam O’Grady, Senior United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, assumed Senior status on May 1, 2020. As such, pursuant to the By‐Laws of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association (“VWAA”), the VWAA will empanel a Judicial Screening Committee (“Committee”) to interview and consider candidates for the judicial vacancy. The Committee will consist of at least five VWAA members.

Interviews of candidates will be conducted virtually via Zoom on January 28, 2021. Candidates interested in applying should submit an application to Maureen E. Carr (mcarr@beankinney.com) and Kristi Cahoon Kelly (kkelly@kellyguzzo.com), Co‐Chairs of the Committee, by January 8, 2021. If you are completing an online application please include mcarr@beankinney.com, kkelly@kellyguzzo.com in the field for question #4 so they will receive the applications directly. The application can also be downloaded as a PDF as well as the Rules of the Judiciary Screening Committee.
